I’m Kristof, a photographer based in Switzerland.

I don’t chase trends or perfection. I’m drawn to presence, to something unguarded, a quiet intensity, a moment that doesn’t ask to be looked at but stays with you once you’ve seen it.

My focus is portraiture, but not in the classical sense. I don’t photograph how someone looks. I photograph what echoes. The way someone holds their breath. The pause before they speak. The flicker of distance in their eyes. I don’t direct much. I don’t talk much. I wait. Until something shifts. And that’s when the image happens.

Some pictures are precise. Others feel like fragments. I never know in advance. But I know the difference between something posed and something real. That’s the only thing I care about.

Photography isn’t my profession. It’s my way of paying attention, to others, and maybe also to myself. Everything I submit here carries that same question: Was something alive, or was it just well lit?

On the edge of the Swiss Alps.
A quiet afternoon above the Oeschinensee, on a day she never knew was my birthday.
The air was thin, the light restless,
and for a moment everything aligned without effort.
No direction, no plan, only a frame I had hoped for long before the shutter clicked.
Some moments arrive exactly when they should, even if no one expects them.

We had talked about it for weeks. Then weeks turned to months. And somehow, three months later, we stood at the lake in Luzern.

The sun was slow that day, dragging gold across the water like a promise. He didn’t pose. He didn’t need to. He just was. And in that presence, everything else made way.

Close to the chapel, in the fading light.
I handed her my hoodie without a thought.
Through the lens, the world turned green.
Her golden hair caught what was left of the day, a last breath of sun before the evening took it back.

It became one of my favorite images.
Not because it’s perfect,
but because it still breathes every time I look at it.

On the steps of an old chapel.
The air was still, the light soft and uncertain.
Nothing was directed, it simply happened.
In that quiet moment, everything fell into place, as if calm itself had chosen to be seen.

700 kilometers from home, with only one lens in my bag.
It wasn’t the first frame of the day, we had already found a rhythm, a quiet trust beginning to form.
And somewhere in that stillness, this moment appeared.
A reminder that sometimes, what you don’t plan stays the longest.

Early morning, before the world was awake.
The first light touched her face like a quiet thought.
Nothing moved, and yet everything was there.
Strength without effort, presence without words.
A calm that didn’t need to be found, only seen.
